Separating Your Story From Your Child’s – Our Latest Podcast

So often, we see ourselves in our children. Part of this is natural. They look like us. They are taught our values. They may even have similar behaviors or even social experiences.

But they’re not us.

One of the most important things for many parents to understand is that our children, no matter our best efforts, are going to have their own experiences and their own stories. They’re not going to live the same life we live and they’re not going to experience life the same way.

It’s important that we start learning to separate our story from our children’s story, just as we’ve separated our own story from our parents. We have to have an understanding that even if your child was raised identically to you, they’re not you, and they’re living their own life in their own way.
