Reddit’s “Am I The A$$hole (AITA)” Therapy Edition: No You’re Not (Sort Of)

One of the most popular communities on Reddit is the “Am I The Asshole,” typically shortened to AITA. It’s a “subreddit” where people share supposedly real life stories and describe their specific situation to a group of strangers, and then the strangers weigh in on whether or not that person was in the wrong, or whether or not the other characters in the story were the ones at fault.

On our most recent mental health podcast, we decided to examine a few specific entries into AITA, and look at them from a psychological perspective. We debate not only whether or not the person “is the asshole” (ITA) or is “not the asshole” (NTA) but also whether or not someone can truly be “TA” at all, given what we know about the complexities of trauma, psychological health, and more.
